Renowned for his candid takes, former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has advised Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim to omit Diogo Dalot from the starting XI ahead of their challenging fixture against Brighton. Parker describes Dalot as a “liability at both ends,” prompting calls for Amorim to rethink his team selection.
Amorim has recently enjoyed a spell of improved performance, having triumphed in successive Premier League outings for the first time during his tenure at Old Trafford. These victories over Sunderland and reigning champions Liverpool have catapulted United to ninth in the league standings, alleviating some pressure from the Portuguese tactician.
However, despite the recent upturn, questions linger over certain player performances. Parker advocates for the inclusion of Noussair Mazraoui, suggesting that the Moroccan full-back would bring much-needed energy and defensive solidity. “I’d get Mazraoui just for his energy levels as well and the fact that he’s good defensively,” Parker mentioned in his interview with iGamingNuts.
He expressed concern over Dalot’s contributions, remarking, “If you looked at Dalot, he never contributed anything at both ends of the field. He was a little bit of a liability.”
Looking ahead to Brighton’s visit to Old Trafford, Parker highlighted the threat posed by the Seagulls, noting their dynamic style of play. He emphasized the need for Amorim to deploy his most athletic players to match Brighton’s vigorous midfield and attacking prowess.
While Manchester United supporters are buoyed by recent wins, Parker’s critique serves as a reminder that the club’s journey under Amorim is still a work in progress, with tactical adjustments necessary to sustain a winning streak.
