Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, has issued a candid retort following Cristiano Ronaldo’s criticism of the club. Amorim acknowledges past missteps but is optimistic about the team’s recent improvements. Under Amorim’s stewardship, the Red Devils have experienced a resurgence, securing three wins and a draw in their last four Premier League fixtures, propelling them to eighth in the league, just a point behind reigning champions Liverpool.
Despite the progress, Ronaldo remains sceptical. In a frank exchange with Piers Morgan, the former United icon suggested Amorim is in need of a “miracle” to restore the club to its former glory. “He’s doing his best. What are you gonna do? Miracles? Miracles are impossible. We say in Portugal, miracles are only in Fatima,” Ronaldo mused.
During a press conference on Thursday, Amorim addressed Ronaldo’s remarks, expressing respect for the influence the Portuguese legend holds. “Of course, he knows he has a huge impact with everything he says,” stated Amorim. “Our focus needs to be on the future. We recognize the errors of our past but are committed to transformation. We’ve initiated changes across the board, from structure to player conduct, and improvements are evident. It’s about moving forward, not dwelling on bygones.”
Meanwhile, Ronaldo revealed his sorrow at United’s current state, recalling the club’s storied past with figures like Nicky Butt, Gary Neville, and Roy Keane. “I’m sad because Manchester United are one of the most important clubs in the world, and I hold them dearly. They need intelligent leadership to rebuild their foundation,” Ronaldo opined, hoping for a restoration to the club’s illustrious stature.
