Liverpool have received word of a reduced fee that could potentially trigger Alexander Isak’s move away from St James’ Park. The Swedish striker is increasingly likely to depart Newcastle, with his sights firmly set on Anfield.
Isak’s intent to leave the Magpies is no longer a secret. His desire to join Liverpool is palpable, even after their initial £110 million offer was promptly dismissed. Currently, Isak maintains his distance from the main squad, as Newcastle prepare for their Premier League curtain-raiser against Aston Villa.
Liverpool are poised to table another bid, contingent on Newcastle’s readiness to secure a replacement and engage in serious negotiations. Fabrizio Romano, the renowned transfer guru, affirmed Liverpool’s unwavering commitment to acquiring Isak. On his YouTube channel, Romano disclosed, “Liverpool are not giving up. They sense Newcastle’s active pursuit of a new striker, as Isak remains resolute on his decision. There are no intentions to renew talks over a new deal.”
Romano added that Liverpool’s confidence in clinching the deal persists, terming it a “concrete opportunity”. Meanwhile, reports from Chronicle Live have suggested an adjusted figure could be pivotal. While Newcastle allegedly demand £150 million, insiders suggest a sum of £130 million plus potential add-ons could provide a breakthrough for Jürgen Klopp’s side.
However, Sky Sports News correspondent Keith Downie has a more sceptical outlook, arguing that it’s “increasingly likely” Isak might remain with the Geordies. The atmosphere is far from ideal, as Downie elaborates, “It’s turning rather toxic, not a scenario Newcastle desires right before the new season. Eddie Howe doesn’t foresee a shift ahead of the Villa Park fixture.”
Despite Liverpool’s interest, Downie reiterates Newcastle’s stance that Isak will only be released for an offer impossible to refuse, assuming a viable replacement is found. With Newcastle failing in their pursuit of targets like Benjamin Sesko, the probabilities tilt towards Isak staying put as the transfer window’s clock winds down.
It’s a situation fraught with tension, as Isak’s recent behaviour has stirred discontent among the Toon Army, leaving bridges to be rebuilt come September if there’s no resolution. Liverpool fans will undoubtedly watch eagerly as developments unfold in the coming weeks.
