Newcastle United are reportedly closing in on their next summer acquisition after securing the nod of approval following an ‘improved’ offer, according to various sources.
The Magpies have faced a challenging summer transfer window, having been unsuccessful in their pursuits of talents like Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and James Trafford. Additionally, the Tyneside club are warding off Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak, affirming that the elite striker will ‘not’ be departing this summer.
Thus far, Newcastle’s notable arrivals include Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale. Yet, the club remains in ardent search of marquee additions, focusing their efforts on a striker and a centre-back. With Marc Guehi out of reach, Malick Thiaw of AC Milan has emerged as their primary target for defensive reinforcements.
On Saturday morning, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio revealed that Newcastle are set to ‘raise their offer for Thiaw today,’ after an initial bid of €30 million was rebuffed by AC Milan. The move might hinge on Thiaw’s inclination towards joining the Premier League, with Milan contemplating the transfer should the German desire the switch.
Later, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed the Magpies’ ‘improved’ bid for Thiaw, conveying the situation is now in the hands of the negotiating clubs. Allegri, Milan’s manager, is reportedly keen to hold onto Thiaw, but Newcastle’s revised proposal could tip the scales.
Furthermore, journalist Matteo Moretto disclosed that Newcastle have advanced a €40 million offer, inclusive of bonuses, with Thiaw already expressing his consent to move to England.
Adding to their transfer momentum, Newcastle have received a significant boost regarding their pursuit of striker Nicolas Jackson. The Guardian reports Jackson has ‘informed Chelsea he wishes to depart’ and might be available at a slashed fee. After training solo on Friday, Jackson, initially valued at £80 million by Chelsea, could now be secured for approximately £65 million, as Chelsea reshuffle their attacking lineup with potential incomings Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig and Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United.
In the transfer tussle for Jackson, Milan are also noted as contenders, though Newcastle appear in a promising position to entice the 24-year-old to St James’ Park.
This transfer window looks set to be a decisive period for Newcastle United as they aim to bolster their squad amidst ongoing negotiations.
