In a surprising turn of events, Manchester United have reportedly decided to withdraw from negotiations over a Barcelona star, reportedly due to financial demands, after head coach Ruben Amorim made his desire for the transfer known.
After a nightmare debut season for Amorim at Old Trafford, where United stumbled to a dismal 15th place finish in the Premier League and ended the season trophy-less following the departure of Erik ten Hag, changes are afoot. Amorim, feeling the strain of last season’s shortcomings, is under pressure to bolster his squad significantly during this crucial summer transfer window. However, the Red Devils have experienced a frustrating summer with limited funds due to a slow pace of player sales.
So far, United have welcomed Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Diego Leon, with Marcus Rashford’s move to Barcelona marking the most notable exit. Despite notable acquisitions, the club has been eager to recruit a reliable striker, having identified Benjamin Sesko as their primary target following missed opportunities with Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres.
Yet, reinforcing the forward line won’t be the end of Amorim’s objectives, as United are also on the hunt for a new goalkeeper and defensive midfielder. Among the possible candidates was Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado, highlighted in several transfer discussions.
A Spanish report suggests Amorim is displeased with the current squad and considers Casado a prime target this summer. Despite initial interest, the pursuit seems to have stalled due to Barcelona’s steep asking price of 65 million euros. United, known for incurring substantial transfer expenses, are reportedly cautious this time around, choosing instead to retreat from this particular negotiation after deeming the price excessive.
Additionally, it’s understood that Casado himself has not shown an inclination to depart from Camp Nou.
Meanwhile, another potential option for bolstering the midfield, Joao Palhinha, is no longer obtainable as Tottenham Hotspur have secured the Bayern Munich player on a loan-to-buy arrangement, further complicating United’s efforts to enhance their squad depth.
With the transfer window still open, United fans will be eager to see how Amorim navigates the remaining period as he aims to forge a more competitive side for the coming season.
