Manchester United are reportedly exploring the acquisition of Al-Duhail midfielder Marco Verratti in the forthcoming January transfer window. The Red Devils, who made significant attacking enhancements over the summer by bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, are now keen on reinforcing their midfield options.
A number of supporters and former players have voiced concerns over United’s failure to secure a defensive-minded midfielder during the last window, with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba identified as a potential target in the coming windows. However, reports now suggest that the club is contemplating signing two midfielders to bolster their squad.
The Spanish outlet Fichajes has identified former Paris Saint-Germain stalwart Verratti as the ‘unexpected footballer’ set to arrive at Old Trafford in January. It is believed the Italian international’s acquisition could provide the necessary balance in midfield, with a return to Europe being an alluring prospect for the player.
Fichajes elaborates on Verratti’s potential impact: “In England, Marco Verratti is seen as an ideal complement to Manchester United’s young players. His ability to distribute the ball, his tactical acumen, and his international experience would be a significant asset to a dressing room in need of seasoned players.”
In other transfer news, former Liverpool and Germany midfielder Didi Hamann has tipped England captain Harry Kane for a return to the Premier League next summer with a move to Manchester United.
Hamann speculates that Kane, who reportedly has a clause allowing a move next summer, could see his stint with Bayern Munich concluded should the correct fee be met. “Whether someone pays £50 million or £60 million for him next summer, I don’t know,” Hamann stated. “But yes, I think many believe he may want to return to England.”
Furthermore, Hamann added, “I can see Harry Kane at Manchester United next season, and I think he’d do well for them. Although being a Londoner might incline him towards clubs in the capital, Manchester United’s stature as arguably the biggest club in England could prove enticing for Kane to become their leading striker.”
