Manchester United are reportedly embroiled in a three-way transfer saga as they look to secure the services of Juventus marksman Dusan Vlahovic. The Red Devils hope to bolster their attacking options further, amid competition from Spanish heavyweights Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
After splashing over £200 million on reinforcements in the summer, facilitated by INEOS’ backing, United aimed to revolutionise their offensive capabilities under the stewardship of manager Ruben Amorim. Despite welcoming the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo, Amorim’s men have struggled, languishing in 14th place with a meagre goal tally.
According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, translated via Football Italia, Vlahovic has emerged as a prime target for United, as they seek a more reliable alternative to Joshua Zirkzee, whose form has not met expectations. The Serbian international, previously courted by United, is reportedly demanding a lucrative contract, including a €10 million annual salary and a €10 million signing bonus.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano highlighted the scenario in August, suggesting Vlahovic had been proffered to United once more amidst rumours of his exclusion from Juventus’ long-term plans. Romano noted, “United’s priority remains Sesko, though should circumstances dictate otherwise, the club may explore other avenues.”
Vlahovic’s potential move has not been without its critics; former Napoli and Udinese coach Giovanni Galeone famously quipped about the striker’s technical shortcomings, remarking, “Perhaps the only Slav player who can’t stop a ball.”
The intrigue surrounding United’s transfer activity continues to mount, as the club faces the prospect of decisively concluding their search for a new frontman.
