Liverpool manager Arne Slot encouraging his team during a Premier League encounter. Liverpool may look to renew their interest in Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon should they part ways with Luis Diaz this summer, reports suggest.
The Colombian international has been closely linked with a move to European giants Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Bayern Munich, in particular, have intensified their pursuit, submitting two bids for the Liverpool winger.
Despite Liverpool’s insistence that Diaz is not for sale, the 28-year-old has reportedly expressed his desire to exit Anfield. German publication Bild reported on Friday that Diaz has already agreed on a lucrative contract with Bayern Munich, which includes earnings of €14 million per year plus bonuses.
Transfer expert Ben Jacobs has now indicated that Liverpool are poised to revisit a deal for Newcastle’s Gordon should Diaz depart. This follows a previous verbal agreement from last summer, which was unable to reach fruition.
Speaking to Liverpool content creator Grizz Khan on YouTube, Jacobs remarked, “Liverpool may choose to reignite their interest in Anthony Gordon to fortify their left flank. It’s one to monitor closely.”
Jacobs continued, “Regarding Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, there’s awareness of Liverpool’s admiration, but any negotiations seem premature at this stage. With Gordon, it’s beyond mere admiration.”
“A year ago, there was an agreement in place pending only a Newcastle deal with Nottingham Forest for Elliott Anderson and another with Brighton for Yankuba Minteh. Had these not materialized, Gordon’s £75 million move to Liverpool would have certainly gone through.”
Newcastle’s ability to find alternative funds ceased Liverpool’s pursuit, but given the recent circumstances, Gordon remains a viable option if Diaz’s exit materialises.
Jacobs further added, “Liverpool maintain an excellent rapport with Newcastle United. There’s respect despite public statements suggesting otherwise. Liverpool’s ambition to acquire world-class talents like Gordon is understood by Newcastle. People like Richard Hughes and Eddie Howe have longstanding relations.”
Meanwhile, more departures could be on the horizon for Liverpool, with Premier League counterparts West Ham increasing their interest in duo Harvey Elliot and Tyler Morton, as reported by ExWHUEmployee.
Via The West Ham Way Patreon, it was revealed, “Interest in Tyler Morton and Harvey Elliot is likely to escalate this week. Additionally, West Ham are advancing talks for a goalkeeper signing.”
Liverpool’s transfer strategy seems far from concluded, with Anthony Gordon remaining a significant piece of their potential summer plans.
