Liverpool have reportedly entered the fray alongside Manchester United in the pursuit of Brighton’s sensational young midfielder, Carlos Baleba. Considered one of the Premier League’s brightest prospects, Baleba’s performances have turned heads, garnering interest from several top clubs.
Recent reports indicate that while Manchester United were initially in pole position for securing the Brighton star having recently outbid Newcastle United for Benjamin Sesko, and previously signing Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha their financial flexibility may be hampered. Brighton are believed to value Baleba at a staggering £104m, which could outstrip United’s summer budget following their significant expenditure nearing £200m.
Despite this, United’s plans may still include Baleba, but they now face stiff competition from both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. According to sources from Caught Offside, these rivals have expressed strong interest and have officially ‘entered the race’ for his signature.
Liverpool, who have already invested significantly in their squad with acquisitions such as Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong, appear to have more leeway for further marquee signings. The Reds’ potential outgoings including Harvey Elliott alongside the already departed Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Jarell Quansah could generate the necessary funds after a £150m summer outlay.
Caught Offside elaborated on Liverpool’s attraction, noting, “Liverpool view Baleba as an ideal candidate for their system’s overhaul, looking to secure Midfield’s future as Wataru Endo ages.”
In the midst of these developments, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shed light on United’s stance. “Manchester United remain focused on Sesko but maintain dialogue with Baleba. Despite the hurdle a big fee presents, they are watchful of any opening,” Romano reported. “Brighton’s current reluctance to sell suggests a swift deal is improbable, potentially deferring discussions until after the World Cup.”
As the transfer window’s close looms, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can seize the opportunity to swipe Baleba from under Manchester United’s nose, or if the Seagulls will steadfastly retain their prized asset.
