In an intriguing development in the summer transfer saga, Alexander Isak of Newcastle United has reportedly rejected an enquiry from Manchester United, opting to focus on a move to Liverpool, as per reports from Florian Plettenberg.
Liverpool’s initial bid of £110 million for the Swedish forward was swiftly rebuffed by Newcastle, with the club making it clear that they would only entertain offers in the region of £150 million. Despite staying behind from Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia, Isak has maintained his fitness by training at his former club, Real Sociedad, as he continues to angle for a switch to Anfield.
The Tyneside club are keen on keeping the 25-year-old and have expressed willingness to reintegrate him into the squad, possibly extending his contract. However, Isak harbours no interest in entertaining offers from other Premier League clubs, making his intentions to join Liverpool crystal clear.
Even amidst the reported interest from Manchester United—which was abruptly declined by Isak—his determination remains undeterred. According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Isak has his sights set firmly on Liverpool, having already agreed on a six-year deal with the Reds.
Ben Jacobs had previously noted that Liverpool were unlikely to table a second offer following Newcastle’s firm response to their initial bid. Yet, it’s understood that personal agreements between Liverpool and Isak pose no issues, although the Merseyside outfit aren’t planning another bid without a nudge of encouragement from Newcastle indicating a willingness to negotiate.
It’s now a waiting game, contingent on Isak’s forthcoming actions. Should he persist in his quest for a move and Newcastle secure alternative striking options, Liverpool might reconsider their stance. However, this hinges on Newcastle’s willingness to re-open talks.
Meanwhile, the Manchester club seems to shift gears as they aim to secure Benjamin Sesko, displaying firm confidence in this alternative pursuit. The next few weeks will be intriguing in battle to become the red devils main striker next season.
