In a whirlwind of transfer activity involving Manchester United, Alejandro Garnacho appears to be on the brink of joining Chelsea, while Real Betis are preparing to make a decisive bid for Antony.
Man United are reportedly eager to trim their squad after a lavish summer expenditure of around £200 million on new recruits such as Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo. This financial manoeuvring has placed Garnacho and Antony in the spotlight, with the Red Devils aiming to balance their books before the looming transfer deadline.
Garnacho, the 21-year-old Argentine winger, is said to have arrived in London for a medical, following reports of a deal with Chelsea. Despite being in manager Ruben Amorim’s plans until late last season, Garnacho’s role diminished, leading to a decision to move him on. His frustration was notable after being used sparingly in the Europa League final against Tottenham, a factor that seemed to influence his outlook.
Famed transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano revealed on X (formerly Twitter), “Alejandro Garnacho has arrived in London as Chelsea and Manchester United have signed all documents. The deal is completed club to club for £40m plus a 10% sell-on clause. Medical to follow then Garnacho will sign his seven-year deal at Chelsea.”
Some figures involved in the transaction suggest that United didn’t quite secure their desired fee, with the final agreement falling slightly shy of the £50 million initially sought. Chelsea’s persistence paid off, however, as reported by Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke.
Meanwhile, the saga concerning Antony and his potential departure to Real Betis continues to unfold. The Spanish outfit are reportedly poised to table one final offer for the Brazilian winger, following a spate of back-and-forth negotiations with Manchester United. Betis have put together a strategic financial package, aiming to purchase half of Antony’s economic rights for approximately €25 million, according to ABC Sevilla.
Antony’s inclination to complete a move back to Betis is pivotal in this prospective transfer, as both clubs edge closer to reaching a consensus before the transfer window slams shut.
With these significant exits looming, it’ll be intriguing to see how Manchester United reshuffle their squad in the waning days of the transfer period, as they seek to forge a new path under Amorim’s stewardship.
