Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Nicolas Jackson may be on his way out of Chelsea this summer, with the striker’s future appearing likely to unfold away from Stamford Bridge. The 24-year-old, having joined the Blues from Villarreal in the summer of 2023, quickly became a key component of their starting line-up. However, the recent acquisitions of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro during this transfer window have cast doubt over his place in the team.
According to football.london, Chelsea are not in a hurry to offload Jackson and are open to him remaining at the club. However, they are equally prepared to consider any appropriate offers that come their way. Notably, Jackson was absent from the squad for the two pre-season friendlies last week and is also set to miss the opening weekend of the new season, when Chelsea face Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge. This is partly due to serving the final match of a suspension following a red card against Newcastle United in the closing stages of last season.
Regardless, it was unlikely Jackson would have featured due to the ongoing uncertainty around his future with the club. When questioned about Jackson’s situation, Maresca stated, “He is training with us but he is not going to be involved.”
Chelsea kick off the Premier League season today with a game at home against Crystal Palace in which is expected to be a difficult showdown. The blues lost Levi Colwell to a serious injury which could hamper their ambitions to compete for a champions league spot. Meanwhile, Palace are awaiting a resolution to Eberechi Eze transfer situation as a move to Tottenham is rumoured to be completed soon.
