Jadon Sancho, the Manchester United winger who once lit up the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, is at the centre of swirling transfer rumours, primarily linked with a switch to Serie A giants Roma. Italian outlets suggest the primary obstacle to his exit from Old Trafford is his agents’ hefty €10m demand for facilitating the move.
Despite being surplus to requirements at Manchester United, Sancho’s future remains unresolved. As the clock winds down and the transfer window’s closure looms, the 25-year-old has yet to secure a new club. Although linked with various teams, Roma appears the frontrunner to seal a deal for Sancho.
Gazzetta reports that Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini harbours growing confidence about landing Sancho, with club owners, the Friedkins, determined to acquire his services. They see Sancho, alongside Leon Bailey and Fabio Silva, as a potential ‘dream attack’. However, talks have stalled over the agents’ fee demands, which have reportedly put off other suitors, such as Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
A transfer would require a club willing to shoulder Sancho’s substantial €9m salary, as Manchester United are not inclined to subsidise a loan. Yet, Sancho has had positive discussions with Gasperini, indicating a potential match made in football heaven where he might find the inspiration and support to shine once again.
Besiktas and teams from Saudi Arabia are also interested, but Roma hope the lure of a central role within the team might sway Sancho’s decision. For United, offloading Sancho could free up much-needed funds, given his reported £250k-a-week wage.
According to GiveMeSport, Sancho remains patient, willing to extend his stay at United past the transfer window unless the right opportunity arises. He is considering revisiting his options come January, a strategy aimed at securing a more favourable long-term solution.
The Manchester United hierarchy, on the other hand, is anxious about retaining Sancho post-window, potentially conceding to a loan move rather than a permanent transfer. The urgency intensifies as keeping Sancho could impede new signings due to his significant salary.
