In a dramatic late twist in the summer transfer window, Chelsea are mulling over an ‘eleventh-hour proposal’ for Aston Villa’s rising star, Morgan Rogers. This development comes amidst ongoing negotiations for RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons and Manchester United’s wantaway talent, Alejandro Garnacho.
The West London club’s influential figures, including owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali alongside sporting director Paul Winstanley, are reportedly keen to further strengthen Enzo Maresca’s attacking arsenal. Despite having already secured the services of Jamie Gittens, Estevao, Liam Delap, and Joao Pedro, the Blues see Rogers as a key acquisition.
Discussions with Manchester United over Garnacho’s transfer have been progressing, as confirmed by football insider Fabrizio Romano. Romano claims Garnacho is resolute in his desire to move to Stamford Bridge even amidst interest from Bayern Munich, and reiterated that, “Conversations are underway over the transfer fee there is a gap.”
Meanwhile, Florian Plettenberg reports Chelsea’s plans to finalise personal terms with Simons post-Leipzig’s clash with Bayern, contingent upon potential offloads such as Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson. The latter of whom has attracted interest from Aston Villa, possibly paving the way for a swap deal involving Rogers, who is valued at £80 million by Villa.
Despite Rogers being integral to Unai Emery’s setup at Villa Park, Chelsea’s interest has endured since May. The Blues are reportedly ‘tempted to make a bid to sign Rogers,’ notwithstanding the complexity of the deal, given Villa’s firm stance and the player’s long-term contract.
Chelsea’s transfer endeavours continue to be the focus of intense speculation as they navigate a complex landscape in pursuit of bolstering their squad ahead of the new season.
