As Newcastle United’s summer transfer dealings encounter fresh hurdles, Aston Villa have emerged as formidable contenders in the pursuit of Chelsea’s promising forward, Nicolas Jackson. According to reports, the Villans are set to challenge the Magpies for Jackson’s signature amidst Newcastle’s search for a replacement for Alexander Isak, who is eyeing a move to Liverpool.
Newcastle, initially eyeing alternatives like Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, have turned their attention to Jackson. The Chelsea striker, known for displaying flashes of brilliance despite questions over his temperament, has found himself surplus to requirements following the arrivals of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro at Stamford Bridge. Renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has urged clubs to “keep an eye on” the young attacker as the transfer deadline approaches.
“Keep an eye on Nicolas Jackson,” Romano advised via his YouTube channel. It’s understood that Chelsea have placed an ambitious £80 million price tag on Jackson, though there’s speculation they might settle for a lesser fee.
While Newcastle remain in contention for Jackson’s services, German journalist Florian Plettenberg disclosed Aston Villa’s interest, suggesting they’ve placed the 24-year-old on their “shortlist” and have already started discussions. “Several clubs are interested,” Plettenberg revealed, all-but ruling out FC Bayern Munich as potential suitors.
In the ongoing tussle, Newcastle reportedly maintain their status as frontrunners according to reports from Italian outlet Calciomercato, despite Aston Villa’s advances. The Tyneside club are determined to bolster their attacking options, concurrently pursuing Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. However, TEAMtalk’s Fraser Fletcher detailed Newcastle’s struggle with Brentford’s “mammoth asking price” of £60 million, complicating the potential deal for Wissa.
The summer transfer window tension continues to mount, as Newcastle balance competing interests and hefty valuations with Aston Villa now firmly in the race for Jackson.
