Aston Villa are reportedly poised to table a €20m bid to bring Marco Asensio back to Villa Park, following his successful loan stint last season. Having struggled to cement his place in Paris Saint-Germain’s plans, Asensio, now 29, could be set for a permanent return to the Midlands under the stewardship of Unai Emery.
Sky Sports reports that the potential departure of Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United has eased Villa’s squad registration concerns, paving the way for this transfer. Sporting director Monchi has earmarked Asensio as a primary target and is keen to reinvest the proceeds from Ramsey’s sale into securing the Spanish international’s services.
Acquired by PSG on a free transfer from Real Madrid in July 2023, Asensio has now been informed he may leave the French capital, provided a suitable offer is made. With just a year remaining on his contract, Villa have already agreed personal terms with the talented playmaker.
During his 21 appearances for the Villans, Asensio found the net eight times and was a standout performer compared to fellow loanee Marcus Rashford. Villa’s financial limitations, influenced by Premier League profitability and sustainability regulations, have forced a more strategic approach to their summer dealings, with Asensio now firmly in their sights.
Following substantial financial losses over the past two seasons, Villa are diligently navigating the Premier League’s financial boundaries. Thus, the sale of academy graduate Ramsey, set for a £40m switch to Newcastle, has become an enticing proposition. Should the move materialise, Ramsey could face his former club in the very first fixture of the new Premier League campaign.
