Arsenal’s pursuit of Eberechi Eze has taken a new turn, as Crystal Palace reportedly demand £35 million up front for the talented midfielder. Meanwhile, deals with other Premier League clubs could assist Arsenal’s Director of Football, Andrea Berta, in completing a seventh signing this summer.
The Gunners have splurged close to £200 million this transfer window, having secured the services of Viktor Gyokeres, Cristhian Mosquera, Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi, and Kepa Arrizabalaga. Despite this heavy investment, Arsenal have yet to see significant departures, which are now becoming imperative to balance the books.
With limited options for big-name exits, Arsenal may need to rely on offloading fringe players. Reiss Nelson is on the verge of a return to Fulham on loan, a deal which might include an obligation-to-buy clause if specific conditions are met. Similarly, Fabio Vieira is attracting interest from West Ham United, with Arsenal hoping to fetch around £20 million for his transfer.
The funds secured from these potential exits could significantly bolster Arsenal’s pursuit of Eze, who has a £67.5 million release clause in his Crystal Palace contract. Although this clause is set to expire before the commencement of the Premier League season, the Eagles are apparently willing to negotiate a deal, provided an initial payment of £35 million is made.
To afford such a sum, Arsenal will likely need to expedite player sales. Even if West Ham meet the valuation for Vieira, additional revenue will be necessary. Fulham’s potential acquisition of Nelson offers some financial relief, though a direct purchase currently seems a distant prospect.
