Arsenal are reportedly preparing to make their first offer for Crystal Palace’s skilful playmaker, Eberechi Eze. Mikel Arteta, having already bolstered his squad with six new signings this summer, is keen to add the England international to his ranks, aiming to make Eze his seventh summer recruit.
Eze has been a standout performer at Selhurst Park over the past five years, playing a pivotal role in Crystal Palace’s triumphant FA Cup campaign in 2024/25, where he notably scored the decisive goal in the final against Manchester City. Palace originally secured the services of the 27-year-old for around £17 million from Queens Park Rangers. Since then, Eze has netted 34 times in 146 Premier League appearances, etching his name into Palace folklore with his heroics at Wembley.
With Eze’s ability to play across various attacking positions – be it on the flanks, as a No.10, or within a midfield trio – he naturally appeals to Arsenal’s strategic ambitions. However, the acquisition of an elite left winger remains a priority for Gunners supporters, especially with aspirations to challenge for both the Premier League and Champions League titles.
For Arsenal to finance their summer spending spree, player sales could be inevitable. Yet, reports suggest that while departures such as Gabriel Martinelli might generate funds, neither his sale nor that of Leandro Trossard would be strictly necessary to obtain Eze’s signature. According to Football Transfers, Arsenal’s initial bid, expected to surface early next week, will propose a total package worth £52 million – a notable sum but some way short of Eze’s £68 million release clause set by Palace.
The Gunners intend to structure the deal with an upfront payment of £30 million, followed by £22 million to be paid over two years. While steadfast in their resolve not to meet the Eagles’ full asking price, Arsenal are aware that their bid might face rejection. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are already scouting potential replacements, with Arsenal’s Trossard and West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta reportedly on their radar.
Arteta remains open to keeping Trossard, who has attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund, though leveraging the Belgian in any transaction for Eze could be advantageous. On the other hand, Paqueta recently cleared of FA betting allegations, has emerged as Palace’s primary target should Eze leave. The 27-year-old, whose contract runs until 2027, could be available for around £30 million, and Palace boss Oliver Glasner has expressed keen interest in a move should Arsenal’s pursuit prove successful.
The possibility of a sensational transfer double involving both Trossard and Paqueta has not been ruled out for Palace, as they look to strengthen their attack scenario. As the summer transfer window heats up, these developments underscore the intricate negotiations that lie ahead for Crystal Palace and Arsenal alike.
