In an intriguing development at the Emirates, Arsenal are reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ with two key players over contract extensions. Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested that one of these stars may be looking to conclude his playing career with the Gunners.
Arsenal have been active in the market of late, shelling out a staggering £250 million this past summer to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad. The likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke, and Martin Zubimendi were among the notable additions, adding depth and quality across the board for the North London club.
These astute acquisitions have propelled Arsenal to the pinnacle of the Premier League, having also maintained a flawless record in the Champions League group stages, alongside securing progress in the Carabao Cup. As such, further winter signings appear unlikely, with Arsenal focusing instead on securing the futures of their current stars.
With contracts recently renewed for William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Ethan Nwaneri, attention has now shifted to Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber. According to Football Insider, Arsenal are confident of finalising agreements with both, with Saka’s extension potentially being record-breaking.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has acknowledged, “Yeah, I think for certain it’s something that they will get to. As you said, it’s probably not the priority right now, but tying down their top talent has been more of a priority for Arsenal.”
Meanwhile, Romano has offered insights into Saka’s long-term ambitions. The young England international apparently harbours dreams of ending his playing days at the Emirates, stating: “We can’t predict the future, but that is the intention. Saka and Arsenal are very happy together, also for the long term.”
It seems Arsenal’s strategy is gaining momentum, with a combination of calculated off-field moves and stellar performances on the pitch under the guidance of Arteta ensuring the club is well-placed for continued success.
