Antony, the former Manchester United winger, has candidly discussed the ‘rudeness’ he experienced at Old Trafford during his final days with the club. The Brazilian international, who struggled to find consistent form across three seasons, eventually moved on to La Liga side Real Betis for the last six months of the previous campaign. This transfer was later solidified with a €22 million permanent deal set for next summer.
The winger had harsh words regarding his treatment at United, citing isolated training sessions and a perceived lack of respect. Speaking to Spanish media outlet Onda Cero, Antony recounted the frustrations of lengthy stints in hotels and the emotional toll of feeling disregarded. While acknowledging the challenges, he expressed gratitude for his time at Old Trafford, recalling two titles achieved with the club.
Further comments made to ESPN Brasil shed light on Antony’s feelings of alienation, as he mentioned being ignored by staff in his final months, lacking even basic courtesies like a simple “good morning” or “good afternoon”. Antony, aiming to move forward, stressed the importance of his current focus on life at Real Betis.
Meanwhile, troubles seem to linger at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim’s management. Another player, Joshua Zirkzee, is reportedly dissatisfied with his lack of playing time. With the Dutch forward having limited appearances this season, speculation is rife about a potential January exit, especially with interest from Italian clubs such as Como and Juventus.
The ongoing issues at United have been further highlighted by transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke, who indicated that if Zirkzee’s situation doesn’t change, he could be compelled to seek a transfer to ensure regular match play, particularly with the upcoming World Cup on the horizon.
It appears that discontent is palpable within the Red Devils’ ranks, casting a long shadow over the club’s current form and future prospects.
