Rasmus Hojlund’s tenure at Manchester United looks precariously short-lived after receiving a ‘clear message’ from manager Ruben Amorim, as per the insights of Fabrizio Romano.
The Dane’s future at Old Trafford hangs in balance following the acquisition of RB Leipzig’s talismanic striker Benjamin Sesko for a hefty £73 million. Sesko’s signing was unveiled on Saturday with the Slovenian frontman presented before the United faithful at the Snapdragon Cup clash against Fiorentina.
After snubbing interest from Newcastle United, Sesko declared: “The legacy of Manchester United is undeniably remarkable, yet it’s the future that stirs my enthusiasm. Discussions about the club’s vision left no doubt that we’re poised for a renaissance in our quest for major honours. The energy and camaraderie are palpable, signalling Manchester as the ideal arena to realise my aspirations.
“I’m eager to learn under the stewardship of Ruben [Amorim] and forge a synergy with my teammates, steering towards the success we are collectively poised for.”
With Sesko primed as Amorim’s preferred choice in attack, Hojlund’s prospects at United seem bleak. The club is reportedly seeking to loan the Danish international under terms demanding a substantial fee, full salary coverage, and an attached buy option.
Leipzig initially raised Hojlund’s name during the Sesko discussions, but a Bundesliga move doesn’t appeal to the 22-year-old. Instead, a return to Italy looms as a likely course, with Juventus, Inter, and AC Milan reportedly circling.
United appear determined to move Hojlund on before the transfer window closes on September 1. His exclusion from the squad against Fiorentina served as Amorim’s definitive ‘clear message’, according to renowned transfer guru Romano. The Italian giants, led by Milan, are seemingly keen, as Romano noted on X: “Rasmus Højlund sat unused against Fiorentina, conveying a decisive message from Man United. As disclosed days ago, the club is open to a loan deal for €6m with full salary coverage and an optional purchase clause. AC Milan are actively pursuing.”
Sesko marks United’s fifth summer signing alongside Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Diego Leon, and Enzo Kana-Biyik. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment tally of £208.4 million ranks United as the summer window’s third-highest spenders. However, with no sales concluded, movement is imperative.
