In what has been a challenging summer transfer window for Newcastle United, manager Eddie Howe finds himself navigating turbulent waters as the club seeks to fill the void potentially left by Liverpool-bound Alexander Isak. The Magpies have endured a series of setbacks, missing out on several preferred targets including James Trafford, Benjamin Šeško, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Hugo Ekitike, João Pedro, and Liam Delap.
With interest in their current talisman Isak, who has his sights set on a move to Premier League holders Liverpool, Newcastle are faced with the daunting task of sourcing a suitable replacement. Isak, whose contract with the Magpies runs until 2028, has been a standout performer, netting 27 goals in all competitions last season. However, his eagerness to don the Liverpool kit has stirred speculations about his future at St James’ Park. Newcastle, steadfast in their £150 million valuation of the striker, are also intent on securing a replacement before entertaining any offers from Liverpool.
In a new development, Graeme Bailey from The Boot Room reveals that Newcastle have been ‘offered the opportunity’ to sign Sporting Lisbon’s young forward, Conrad Harder, at a significantly reduced fee. Harder, who joined Sporting from Nordsjaelland for around £16 million last summer, impressed with 12 goals in his debut season. Despite a release clause of £69 million, AC Milan have reportedly tabled a £20 million offer plus a sell-on clause, hinting that the player could be available for less.
Bailey further notes, “Intermediaries have contacted Newcastle to inform them of Harder’s availability. It’s understood that Harder has been on Newcastle’s radar, and given their current situation, they may move swiftly to bring him to Tyneside.”
Meanwhile, Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke reports that a deal for Wolves’ forward Jorgen Strand Larsen appears increasingly unlikely. “While he’s on Newcastle’s list, he’s not the priority. Wolves are looking to retain Larsen, seeking at least double what they initially paid. Newcastle have other targets they are considering,” he adds.
Ben Jacobs also confirms that Newcastle have had a £50 million offer for Larsen rejected by Wolves, who are firm in their decision not to sell. As the transfer window edges to a close, Newcastle finds themselves at a critical juncture, aiming to conclude their striker search on a positive note.
