Fabrizio Romano, the renowned transfer guru, has unveiled the latest developments from Manchester United’s transfer activity, revealing their next acquisition after securing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
The Red Devils have already bolstered their squad with the summer signings of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves for a tidy sum of £62.5 million and the promising Diego Leon from Paraguayan club Cerro Porteño.
Following a drawn-out period of negotiations, David Ornstein from The Athletic recently confirmed that United have finally reached an agreement to sign Mbeumo in a deal valued at £71 million. Romano was quick to corroborate the news on social media, noting that Brentford had granted United the go-ahead after they agreed on personal terms with Mbeumo several weeks ago.
The transfer specialist tweeted: “BREAKING: Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, here we go! Green light from Brentford and club-to-club agreement reached for £70m package, as @TheAthleticFC reports. Contract agreed weeks ago with Mbeumo, who only wanted Man United move. After Cunha, Mbeumo is next for #MUFC.”
Romano later elaborated on the finer details of the transfer, revealing the agreed payment structure and the specifics of Mbeumo’s contract with United. He detailed: “Bryan Mbeumo’s fee will be £65m plus £6m in add-ons paid across four instalments. Brentford accepted the payment structure proposed by Manchester United.”
He continued: “Bryan Mbeumo’s contract at Manchester United will run until June 2030, with an option to extend until June 2031. Man United insisted on the +1 option, and it’s been woven into the agreement.”
Looking beyond the Mbeumo deal, Romano disclosed INEOS’s strategic plans for further strengthening the squad, with the recruitment of a new striker taking precedence. Manchester United have expressed interest in RB Leipzig’s talented forward Benjamin Šeško.
Romano added: “Manchester United plan to sign a new striker in the coming weeks as the main target following the completion of the Bryan Mbeumo deal. Player sales will be crucial to the budget as Garnacho, Sancho, Rashford, and Antony are among those expected to depart.”
Meanwhile, another report from The Athletic, penned by Laurie Whitwell, indicates that Manchester United are making life challenging for six players, including Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia. These individuals have been relegated to training separately from the main group, with restricted training times, to encourage them to seek transfers away from Old Trafford.
This strategy has sparked internal disagreements within the club, as some fear that distancing these players may diminish their market value, amidst broader cost-cutting measures affecting staff at all levels.
