Manchester United are making significant strides in the summer transfer market, having reportedly reached a ‘verbal agreement’ for their fourth acquisition following the successful signing of Bryan Mbeumo.
The club has so far welcomed Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a fee of £62.5 million, alongside Diego Leon, who joined from Paraguayan outfit Cerro Porteño for £3.3 million.
Following protracted negotiations, renowned journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic reported on Friday that United had finally secured an agreement to sign Mbeumo from Brentford in a deal valued at £71 million. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has disclosed details of the payment structure agreed between the clubs as well as Mbeumo’s contractual terms at United.
On social platform X, Romano elaborated, “Bryan Mbeumo’s transfer fee stands at £65 million, accompanied by £6 million in potential add-ons, payable across four instalments. Brentford have accepted the payment terms proposed by Manchester United.” He further mentioned, “Mbeumo’s contract extends until June 2030, with a +1 year option included as per United’s request.”
The French striker’s medical examination at United is reportedly set to take place on Saturday, according to FootMercato sources. Meanwhile, Romano has indicated that INEOS, United’s stakeholders, prioritise bringing in a new striker, linking the club with RB Leipzig’s promising talent Benjamin Sesko.
Romano commented, “Manchester United aim to secure a striker in the coming weeks as their primary focus following the Mbeumo deal. Player departures like Garnacho, Sancho, Rashford, and Antony could significantly affect the budget.”
In further developments, United’s quest to bolster their midfield sees them keen on Javi Guerra from Valencia. According to journalist Daniele Longo via Calciomercato, Guerra has reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with United, although club negotiations remain unresolved. Additionally, Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand has emerged as a ‘main target’ for United, with Amorim’s influence tipped to be pivotal in securing the Dane.
With clubs like Inter Milan, Arsenal, and PSG reportedly keeping an eye on Hjulmand, United’s advantage seemingly lies in manager Ruben Amorim’s history with the player. Despite Sporting’s persistence on an €80 million release clause, there are indications they might entertain offers ranging between €50-60 million.
