Alejandro Garnacho’s anticipated exit from Manchester United this summer appears increasingly uncertain following a reported disagreement with manager Ruben Amorim. Hopes of a move to Napoli have been dashed as the Italian side has reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven for the transfer of Noa Lang, eliminating that potential route for Garnacho.
The Argentine winger, eager to leave Old Trafford, was touted for a possible transfer to the Serie A outfit, potentially following in the footsteps of former teammate Scott McTominay. However, Napoli’s commitment to securing Lang, with a deal reportedly worth €28 million (£24 million) awaiting medical clearance, means Garnacho will need to look elsewhere for his next opportunity.
Renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal for Lang is imminent, which leaves Garnacho no closer to parting ways with the Red Devils – a club he is one of five players reportedly keen to depart.
London’s Chelsea remains the only club still linked with the 21-year-old winger, undeterred by their recent acquisition of wide forwards Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro. According to The Athletic, the Blues are poised to continue their pursuit of Garnacho.
Nevertheless, Manchester United have placed a hefty £60 million price tag on Garnacho, who is contracted until 2028. Despite being a promising talent, Garnacho was benched for United’s final Premier League match last season, following a brief Europa League final appearance in the loss to Tottenham. Post-defeat, Amorim reportedly informed him he should seek a new club during the summer transfer window.
After the Europa League final, Garnacho expressed his frustration, stating, “Up until the final I played every round helping the team, and today I played 20 minutes. I don’t know. The final will influence my decision, but the whole season, the situation of the club. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens afterwards.”
The 21-year-old further strained relations by sharing a photo of himself donning an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford’s name – another player contemplating his future away from Old Trafford – emblazoned on the back.
Rashford, on the other hand, still commands considerable interest, with persistent links to Barcelona, who are keen to secure his services after failing to land Nico Williams. Rashford has reportedly described Barcelona as his “dream destination” and is eager for the move, though Newcastle have shown interest as well in the England international, often linked with the acquisition of free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin following his departure from Everton.
