Tyrell Malacia is the last man standing from Manchester United’s bomb squad and now he has just 48 hours to get out.
Boss Ruben Amorim told five players to clear off in the summer or face the boot from first team action. Four have already gone. Only Malacia is left, and he is staring at exile unless he can fix a move before the Turkish window slams shut.
Marcus Rashford was shipped to Barcelona on loan. Jadon Sancho went to Aston Villa. Alejandro Garnacho was snapped up by Chelsea in a permanent deal. Antony packed his bags for Real Betis. Malacia has been left training on his own at Carrington.
A switch to Spanish side Elche fell apart on deadline day. But he has been thrown a lifeline. Turkish outfit Eyupsport have stepped up talks with United over a season-long loan. If it happens, it will almost certainly mark the end of his United career.
Malacia cost £14.6 million from Feyenoord in 2022 and was the first signing under Erik ten Hag. He managed 47 games, most in his debut year, but injuries and loss of form wrecked his progress. His contract runs out next summer so this could be goodbye for good.
United are no strangers to the extended Turkish window. Keeper Andre Onana has already joined Trabzonspor after being frozen out. And Malacia may soon follow him out of the door.
The clear-out has been brutal. Rasmus Hojlund and Victor Lindelof have also moved on. Club legend Rio Ferdinand insists the shake-up was vital, warning that keeping unhappy players would poison the dressing room.
Now all eyes are on Istanbul. Malacia has 48 hours to get the deal done or be left in the wilderness at Old Trafford.
