Real Madrid’s ambitious summer recruitment drive has seen them secure the signature of Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold for a fee of around £8.4 million, as he pushed through a move to the Bernabeu after letting his contract run down. However, Liverpool are proving to be less accommodating regarding interest in another of their prized assets, Alexis Mac Allister.
Despite accepting a £43 million offer from Los Blancos for defender Ibrahima Konate, who has rejected contract renewal offers and is rumoured to have agreed personal terms with the Spanish giants, the Reds have set a lofty price tag of €100 million on Mac Allister, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes. This valuation, mirroring his Transfermarkt worth, is said to be a deterrent to Real Madrid, who may struggle to meet such financial demands.
Alexis Mac Allister remains a key figure in Arne Slot’s Liverpool squad, having joined from Brighton for £35 million in 2023. With three years remaining on his current contract, the World Cup winner is perceived as ‘comfortable’ in the Premier League. Liverpool’s recent Premier League triumph and their bolstered squad for another title push make Mac Allister’s presence invaluable. His potential move, therefore, remains complicated as Real Madrid aren’t in a position to splash out indiscriminately.
While Mac Allister remains a challenging target, Konate appears set to don the famous white shirt of Real Madrid. Following Paris Saint-Germain’s thrashing of Real Madrid in the Club World Cup semi-finals, alarm bells sounded at Valdebebas, prompting manager Xabi Alonso to seek defensive reinforcements. Konate is believed to fit the profile perfectly and looks poised to join Real, with reports suggesting a deal will be completed imminently after Liverpool agreed to Real’s financial terms under the pressure of Konate’s contract standoff.
