Arsenal appear ready to splash out £55 million for Crystal Palace’s star player, Eberechi Eze, as they aim to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. The London club is reportedly willing to offer Eze a four-year contract amidst expectations that the midfielder is keen on a move to the Emirates this summer.
The Gunners have been actively reinforcing their lineup during the transfer window. Despite finishing second in the Premier League for the third consecutive season, Arsenal are determined to overcome this hurdle and mount a serious challenge for the title. In pursuit of this goal, they have already secured the signings of Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard, and Kepa Arrizabalaga, with Viktor Gyokeres on the verge of joining.
While Gyokeres’ impending £64 million transfer will be Arsenal’s priciest acquisition this summer, the club shows no signs of slowing down. Reports from our colleagues at TEAMtalk suggest Arsenal are ‘prepared’ to meet Palace’s demands for Eze, although Palace reportedly value their talisman at £68 million.
Eze, the England international, is understood to be ‘open’ to the move to Arsenal, having purportedly shared his intentions with friends. Transfer insider Graeme Bailey commented: “I am informed that Eze firmly remains on Arsenal’s radar and significant groundwork has been laid. There is a strong likelihood that Eze could become an Arsenal player before the end of August.”
Arsenal have been maintaining dialogue with Eze’s representatives throughout this summer’s transfer window. However, they may need to reach an understanding with Crystal Palace if they are to secure the player’s services. Having already committed over £130 million in transfers this summer, Arsenal may be reluctant to increase their spending by another £68 million without assurance of Eze’s potential impact.
Nevertheless, if Palace refuse to budge from their valuation, Arsenal must decide whether to dig deeper into their coffers or forego the signing altogether. Eze appears ideally suited to Arsenal’s style of play, but it remains to see how much the club is willing to invest following an already substantial outlay this summer.
The Gunners now face the challenging task of negotiating terms with Crystal Palace to bolster their squad with another formidable talent.
