In a surprising turn of events, Tottenham Hotspur have triggered the £60 million release clause of Nottingham Forest’s midfield dynamo, Morgan Gibbs-White. The 25-year-old England international, long admired in north London, is poised for a swift transition to Tottenham, with his medical set for the next 24 hours, enhancing Thomas Frank’s squad for their anticipated return to Champions League action.
This significant acquisition crowns a remarkable £150 million spree for Spurs, marked by an imminent £55 million signing of West Ham’s attacking sensation Mohammed Kudus, and the recent £5 million capture of Japan’s central defensive talent Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale. Additionally, Spurs finalised a £30 million commitment to permanently secure Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich.
Frank, who has been plotting his team strategy since Brentford days, identified Gibbs-White for his creative prowess and versatility. Seen as ideal for the No.10 role, Gibbs-White is equally adept in deeper midfield positions or out wide. Aided by his assistant Justin Cochrane, who has previously collaborated with Gibbs-White in the England setup, Frank is excited to deploy their new asset this season.
Last term, under former Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo, Gibbs-White shone brightly for Forest, often captaining the side and contributing seven goals and 10 assists in 34 Premier League appearances, propelling Forest into the upper echelons for much of the campaign.
Tottenham’s willingness to activate the release clause underscores a shift in transfer strategy, reflecting their intent to harness Gibbs-White’s flair and dynamic gameplay. Frank’s squad is further fortified as they brace for the challenges of elite European competition.
