Manchester United are reportedly preparing a significant bid for Bayer Leverkusen’s esteemed centre-back, Edmond Tapsoba. The Red Devils, having already splashed over £200m the previous summer to acquire talents such as Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, Senne Lammens, and Diego Leon, are setting the stage for another ambitious outlay.
Despite this hefty expenditure, the season initially saw poor results under Ruben Amorim, who was subsequently dismissed. The introduction of interim manager Michael Carrick has seen a marked improvement, with United now residing in the Premier League’s top four following a series of positive results.
The promise of Champions League football next season could serve as a catalyst for United’s upcoming transfer activity, with German outlet Fussballdaten reporting the club’s keen interest in Tapsoba. The defender’s physicality is deemed perfectly suited for England’s top-flight rigours, prompting United to consider a bid when the window opens.
However, the pursuit of Tapsoba won’t be without competition. European giants Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, and Real Madrid have also expressed interest in the Burkina Faso international. Fussballdaten highlights that Leverkusen are willing to entertain offers approaching Tapsoba’s release clause suggested to be between €95m and €100m, or the club’s estimated valuation in the region of €60m.
As Leverkusen begin their search for Tapsoba’s potential replacement, the player’s future could hinge on the financial prowess of Europe’s elite clubs. TheWeek further estimates that United are primed to invest upwards of £200m in new recruits during the 2026 summer window.
Manchester United are also rumoured to be eyeing reinforcements in midfield, with Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister amongst those linked. Yet, former United defender Paul Parker has voiced his scepticism over such a transfer, dismissing it as implausible and speculative.
Parker adamantly stated: “My first thought is just no, no, no, no, NO. Not in a million years… Even if [Mac Allister] wanted to come, the club would have to say no. It would never work out, not in a million years.”
With anticipation mounting, all eyes will be on how Manchester United manoeuvre through yet another crucial transfer period, as their quest for domestic and European success continues.
