Ukraine win the first shoot-out of Germany 2006

Switzerland missed all their penalties. The Ukrainians scored three. Suffice to say that England v Ecuador was a “classic” compared to this one so I will spare you the details! Can the Ukraine go any further? No.

  1. Diego Anderiz Says:

Don’t forget the penalty by the rising star and one of the country’s most talented newcomers, whose introduction into the game saw Ukraine lift their standards up a notch, Artem Milevskiy.

With great coolness he put the decisive penalty away a la Panenka, named after the Czech start whose penalty against Germany in 1976 world cup final.

The technique involves strolling up and chipping the ball down the middle of the net with barely enough force to carry it across the line.

A name to watch in the future!
